Dark in color, but mild is the only way to describe this blend. What we wish to convey to the reader that it is gentle to the palate.
I had expected this to be Astley's Dark Virginia since they are both made by Kolhase & Kopp but happily that was not the case. This blend is nicely balanced, the perique comes through as a delicious condiment mellowing out to a nice sweet, but not overpowering Virginia flavour. If anything this is more complex and sophisticated than Astley's DVF, and it is cheaper. I would really give this 4 and a half stars because as is the case with most of the Rattray's blends it needs a bit of drying time.
