BriarWorks President and CEO, Todd Johnson has been making some of the world’s finest handmade pipes for the past fifteen years, and has also trained many budding pipe-makers in the craft. Along with fellow pipemaker Jody Davis, Todd brought American made pipes onto the international stage, setting a new standard for engineering, fit and finish, and detail. So much so that it is now common to talk of “American style” engineering when speaking of a high grade pipe. Todd raised both the standard and the level of conversation with regard to hand-made pipes before turning his sights toward serially produced pipes. He set out to create a line of pipes with all the elements present in the world’s finest hand-made pipes, but at a price point attainable by nearly every pipe smoker. This is the goal and mission of BriarWorks International–to design and produce the world’s finest pipes at sufficient quantity to supply retailers and consumers around the globe.
In the spring of 2013, Todd hired Pete Prevost to join him in this endeavor. Pete has been a student of Todd’s for the past five years, and has proven himself a truly innovative pipe maker. His eye for shape and his attention to detail make him a true standout even amongst high grade makers. The two of them, along with the company’s Director of Operations, Rita Spellings, spent the rest of 2013 building a facility in Nashville and setting up what has become the only American pipe factory that produces exclusively in the United States.
